A Guide to NCT

nct debuted on April 9, 2016 as 5 members under sm entertainment. nct stands for neo culture technology, a term used to describe their concept of have an unlimited amount of members. today nct consists of 23 members spread across four nct subunits (nct u , nct 127 , nct dream , and wayv). they are the largest and most diverse k-pop group in history, with members representing 10 different nationalities. they have music in korean , Japanese , Thai , Chinese , and English. sm entertainment confirmed in December of 2020 they plan to debut nct's 5th subunit in 2021. they boast some of k-pop's best dancers, vocalists , and rappers. they have won numerous awards such as rookie of the year in 2016 for subunit nct 127 and album of the year in 2020 for their project album , resonance , which included all 23 members under the name nct 2020.

NCT U

nct u is nct's first subunit and debuted on April 9, 2016 as 5 members (taeyong , ten , doyoung , Jaehyun , and mark) with the single the seventh sense. the u stands for united. as of December of 2020 all 23 members of nct have promoted under nct u. this is because it's nct's rotational subunit, it is ultimately the unit where members from the other units come together. it is the unit that makes nct truly unique. the lineup of nct u changes by song, with different member combinations for every release.

NCT 127

nct 127 is nct's second subunit and debuted on July 7, 2016 as 7 members with their first mini album fire truck. the 127 represents the coordinates of Seoul, south korea where the group was formed. today nct 127 has 10 members: TAEYONG , TAEIL , JOHNNY , YUTA , DOYOUNG , JAEHYUN , WINWIN , JUNGWOO , MARK , AND HAECHAN. they are nct's most popular and highest selling subunit, they have reached massive success in both Asia and west, having done one world tour and planned another, but it was cancelled due to the covid-19 pandemic. their breakout songs include cherry bomb , regular , and kick it.

NCT DREAM

nct dream is nct's third subunit and debuted on august 25, 2016 as 7 members with the single chewing gum. they were created to be a "graduating unit" in which members under under 18 would be placed, and once they became adults they would move to another subunit. the only member to ever leave was mark, but he was added back to the group two years after his departure and it is now a fixed subunit. nct dream now consists of all its original members: mark , renjun , jeno , haechan , jaemin , chenle , and jisung. the unit is rising majorly in terms of popularity and their 4th mini album , reload , was among the highest selling albums of 2020 in South Korea. their break out songs include we go up and boom.

WAYV

wayv is nct's fourth subunit and debuted on January 17, 2019 as 7 members with the ep the vision. wayv stands for we are your vision and the unit is described as nct china, as they consist almost entirely of Chinese members and promote and make music in mandarin. way's 7 members include: kun , ten , winwin , Lucas , xiaojun , hendery , and yangyang. as nct's newest subunit 3/7 members did not even promote under the nct brand until over a year after their debut, while the other 4 had been members of nct for years prior. they have met most of their success abroad but sm entertainment announced they would begin heavily marketing their music in china in 2021.
